It’s been a while since I shared what I’d been reading. Despite getting back into the reading habit in between, I’m sorry to say I slipped and slackened my pace a little – blame it on Netflix! With a flurry of book-based shows and movies to watch like Rebecca and A Suitable Boy, I landed up progressing rather slowly on the books that I had started reading. But I’m glad to say I’ve finished a couple and about to finish another.
How terrible it is that despite having read so many books I hadn’t read this one before. But its finally off my TBR Pile. This novel is set against Biafra’s struggle to establish an independent republic in Nigeria in the 1960s, and the violence that followed. I found it incredibly engrossing and easy-to-read in terms of language but difficult to read at times because of the subject matter. Still its one I’m glad I’ve read and hope to pick up more books by this prize-winning author.
Writer friend Pervin Saket shines in this debut novel inspired by the tale of Urmila, Lakshman’s wife who patiently waited for him to return while he journeyed with Rama and Sita during their exile. I’m currently reading this one and enjoying it!
To sell your book, whether to an agent, a publisher or a potential reader – you need to be able to write a pitch or a blurb. This is a short ebook that I am still going through as I need to tackle each of the exercises given within in, but so far, I’ve found it quite helpful.
As a bonus, check out my attempt at a shaded bookshelf above! Its nothing compared to the picture-perfect shelves you find on Pinterest but I think it’s not half-bad either. I hope to fill it out with appropriately-coloured books over the weeks to come.
