Almost six months have whizzed past since my last ‘reading’ post. I’ve spent most of my time re-reading old favourites or thumbing through some writing craft books to help me dig myself out of a plot hole.
But recently I picked up a clutch of bestsellers for discounted prices, and it infused fresh blood into my reading practice.
Here’ s a few of my favourites:
Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid | Goodreads
This is a complex book about racism, and I feel like I’m on the periphery of the issue. We have our own share of caste problems in India, so my conclusion was that I am an outsider to this particular brand of othering. I loved reading the book and finished it as usual within a few days, so I would highly recommend it, especially for people like me who want to take a closer look at the issue. It does not have a clear villain in that sense. Are the negative characters really bad or are simply shades of grey?
Mastermind: How to Think Like Sherlock Holmes by Maria Konnikova
I snapped up this one out of curiosity and it does what it says on the tin. I’ve just plunged into this one, though, so I’ll probably share a proper review when I’m done. But so far, I am riveted.
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion
A perennial favourite of the bestseller list, this is another one I am simul-reading mainly because I’m a cat that curiosity hasn’t killed yet.
The Humans by Matt Haig
Yes, I know that I should really be reading Midnight Library by this author instead as that’s the big bestseller and most popular book. But the description intrigued me and I wanted to read it too. Its next on my list.
Have you read any new books recently? Even though my TBR is overflowing more than the garbage in the oceans, please let me know your recommendations so I can add to it!
I really enjoyed Such A Fun Age!! This is a great selection honestly!
