New Publications + Resources Roundup Sep’24

Gargi Mehra's avatarPosted by

In the spirit of ‘better late than never’, I thought I’d share some of the little spurts of writing news and successes that have come my way in the last few months.

The first was a reprint in the National Flash Flood that happens every June: FlashFlood: ‘Mother, Believing’ by Gargi Mehra. This story was originally published in Vestal Review in 2021, and was even nominated by them for their Best of the Net.

Unexpectedly I received another honour – a mention in the most coveted Longlist: The Wigleaf Top 50 Very Short Fictions 2024

Recently my interview was featured in .Writers.on.Writing. — Yellow Arrow Publishing!

I’ve resumed submitting my stories around May, by culling the best venues from the usual sources:
The Practicing Writer 2.0: September 2024
Publishing … and Other Forms of Insanity: 96 Calls for Submissions in September 2024 – Paying markets (Also check out their 50 Writing Contests in September 2024 – No entry fees and 34 Splendid Writing Conferences and Workshops in September 2024)
And don’t forget the markets for flash fiction at:

I am sad to note that Cathy’s Comps and Calls remains on hiatus. I sincerely hope Cathy Bryant is back on her feet soon.

From the beginning of June, I’ve picked up learning poetry from a poet friend. It’s a new experience for me and though I had dabbled in it before, I find that learning it formally and practicing it has helped me improve my poetic skills a lot. I am hopeful that I can share success of my published poems the next time I write this post!

Meanwhile, here are some thoughts for you to chew on:
