Readers and writers, I have a confession to make. I love Maths! Or at least, numbers and algebra and quadratic equations and the like.
I’ve spent many an hour with the puzzle books of Shakuntala Devi (no internet, remember?). Some of the problems were easy to solve but others proved more hair-tearing. Nevertheless, I always enjoyed the attempt, and when I gave up, I invariably turned to the solutions printed in the pages at the end.
Inspired by the numerical conundrums found in her books, I wrote a poem last year. Encouraged by the comments and critiques of my fellow poets, I worked on it a little more and finally began sending it out.
Until it got published in the fabulous Boudin! Their latest issue titled Universal Language, July ’25 – The McNeese Review was math-themed, and I couldn’t resist sending in my little ode.
